MTPFD facilitates an NFPA program called Steps to Safety. This program touches on 16 key fire and fall safety messages that are commonly linked to aging adults. It incorporates fun trivia questions and social interaction activities. MTFPD also teaches this program on an individual basis to those who are unable to attend classes due to disabilities.

New 10 year sealed battery smoke alarms are available to be installed free of charge to residents. If you are in need of a new smoke alarm, call our office to schedule a time for us to install.

Smoke alarms should be tested every month to ensure they are working. 

It is recommended to have a smoke alarm in that following areas of the home:

  • every bedroom
  • hallway outside bedrooms
  • on every level of the home (including the basement)
FILE OF LIFE; MEDICAL INFORMATION CARD

The My Medical Information Cards gives necessary information to first responders, allowing them to give the best possible treatment relative to an individual's medical conditions, allergies, and medications. It gives emergency contact and other necessary information needed in the case of an emergency. Keep it on your fridge so first responders can locate it easily.

RESIDENTIAL KNOX BOX

Residential Knox Boxes are secured key boxes designed to provide responding firefighters and paramedics immediate access to an entry key for a residence. The Knox Boxes are made of heavy-duty steel and installed over a resident's entry door. The McHenry Township Fire Protection District has the only key to open the Knox Box to retrieve the entry key.

Home safety assessment visits focuses on fire and fall prevention. Individualized strategies for you and your home to help you stay safe, healthy, and independent.

blood pressure checks

MTFPD provides free blood pressure checks on the 1st Wednesday of every month at the Senior Center. The crew will be there at 1:30PM (right after BINGO). Day/time subject to change, depending on any incoming emergency calls.

Illinois Premise alert program

People with specific needs can provide their information to be kept in a database for fire, police, and EMS agencies. The information can then be provided to responders dealing with an emergency incident at the residence.
